The Citizens have seen their neighbours overtake them in the title race this term, with the Red Devils currently three points clear at the top.

Three points at Eastlands this weekend would, in other words, go a long way in their respective trophy charges, with almost half the season already played.

David Silva is a major doubt for City, the Spanish playmaker having missed Tuesday's 1-0 loss to Borussia Dortmund with a hamstring injury, but manager Roberto Mancini has said he will give Silva until the last minute to prove his fitness for what is his side's biggest match of the season thus far.

Mancini says he is less likely to risk Gael Clichy and James Milner as he is worried about aggravating their respective injuries. Both, however, still remain in contention.

Aleksandar Kolarov and Micah Richards remain sidelined leaving City slightly threadbare in the left-back position.

Meanwhile, Red Devils boss Sir Alex Ferguson is sweating over the fitness of midfielder Tom Cleverley. The England international will have a scan on his calf injury after hobbling off in the midweek Champions League defeat to CFR Cluj.

Ferguson was hoping that Nemanja Vidic would return from his lengthy layoff for the crucial encounter, but it appears now as though he, along with Shinji Kagawa, will not prove their fitness in time.

Robin van Persie and Patrice Evra will return after being rested in midweek, with the Old Trafford outfit having been guaranteed their progression in Europe with two games to spare.
