The Dragons were up against Paris St-Germain in the UEFA Champions League on Tuesday at Parc des Princes, with Villas-Boas in attendance.
He has claimed his fondness for the Portuguese outfit stems from his time in charge of the club, hence his trip across the pond.
However, Spurs' previous interest in Moutinho has lead to ongoing speculation that Villas-Boas wishes to be reunited with the 26-year-old at White Hart Lane, as early as the January transfer window.
Yet, the ex-Chelsea boss remains coy on the matter, telling the Daily Mirror: "Whenever Porto are close to the place where I am, I go see them.
"I went to see them last season against Manchester City and took the opportunity to go and see them again against PSG.
"It was a tiring trip, but good to see people that are important to me."
