The Spaniard joined the Red Devils in 2011 after two impressive seasons as Atletico number one, but a number of high profile errors in the early stages of his United career sparked some furious debate as to whether the 22-year-old was of the quality required by the 12-time Premier League winners.

His form has improved massively in recent months, but De Gea admits he still feels the pressure to perform at his best week in week out.

De Gea will, who is expected to return to the United line-up for Wednesday's Premier League clash with West Ham, having been sidelined for three games after having his wisdom teeth removed, told United Review: "I am at a huge club and there are big demands on you.

"As a goalkeeper I am well aware that any mistake can be magnified by the press and the fans. That's always the case for goalkeepers, no matter where you play.

"But it's true that here at Manchester United there's added pressure.

"It's bigger than it was for me at Atletico Madrid and also for the Spain Under-21 team.

"It's a challenge that's enjoyable and it ensures you're always striving to operate at 100%."
