Benteke: Winning goal

A second-half header from Christian Benteke was enough to give Aston Villa the win over Reading at Villa Park on Tuesday night.

There were very few chances to speak of in the first-half, with Adam Le Fondre coming closest for the visitors with an overhead-kick on the 11th minute, following a half clearance from a Jobi McAnuff cross.

For the home side Andreas Weimann had the best opportunity of the first 45 minutes, when a Benteke cross found him at the back post but the midfielder could only fire over the crossbar just before the half-hour mark.

The second-half continued in much the same fashion as the first, as both teams had limited chances.

But both Villa and Reading had opportunities from corners with Le Fondre and Ciaran Clark coming close from set-pieces.

And it was a corner that broke the stalemate on the 80th minute when Ashley Westwood's cross found Benteke in the box, before the Belgian striker headed home.

Reading struggled to create any chances after that and it was Villa who claimed all three points to climb out of the Premier League relegation zone.
