Incoming QPR manager Harry Redknapp watched from the stands at Old Trafford as his new side threw away a second-half lead in eight minutes.

In a slow first-half, Wayne Rooney came closest to opening the scoring when his powerful effort was well saved by Julio Cesar while Jamie Mackie saw a headed goal ruled out for offside at the other end.

United came out racing for the second-half but went behind eight minutes after the restart when Kieron Dyer, on his first league start since August 2011, crossed for Mackie who steered the ball home from three yards.

The goal shook Alex Ferguson's side into life and they equalised on the 64th minute. Wayne Rooney's deep corner was headed down by Danny Welbeck for Jonny Evans who scored his second goal of the season from close range.

United added two more in quick succession as, first, QPR failed to deal with another corner and Fletcher marked his first Premier League start in a year with a thumping header before super-sub Javier Hernandez came off the bench to finish coolly past Cesar.

Clint Hill saw a header cleared off the line late on but QPR never looked like coming back into the game and they will rue their defending from set-pieces; an issue Harry Redknapp will surely address in his first training sessions.

The R's are winless after their opening 13 Premier League games and sit 26 points behind United, who have now come from behind to win on nine occasions this season.
