Former Rotherham United star Adam Le Fondre scored both of the Royals' goals but a home victory seemed extremely unlikely at half time after Everton had completely dominated the opening 45 minutes.

The home side were dreadful in the first half and a series of defensive errors allowed Steven Naismith to poke the Toffees into a tenth-minute lead.

The Merseysiders then had an appeal for a penalty turned down when Naismith appeared to be brought down in the box by Kaspars Gorkss before Sean Morrison handled a Nikica Jelavic volley only for referee Martin Atkinson to again wave play on.

David Moyes' side could easily have been out of sight at the interval but the second half was a completely different affair. The visitors seemed strangely lethargic while the Royals were transformed and they grabbed an equaliser six minutes after the restart when some dreadful marking allowed Le Fondre to head Nicky Shorey's free-kick past Tim Howard.

From then on the Berkshire outfit won every 50-50 challenge and it came as no surprise when the home side moved ahead, Le Fondre scoring from the penalty spot in the 78th minute after he had been pushed by Seamus Coleman.

Reading controlled the match from then on, although Marouane Fellaini almost earned the Toffees a share of the spoils when he hit the woodwork with ten minutes left.
