The Hammers, under boss Sam Allardyce, have already exceeded expectations this season, and currently occupy sixth place in the standings with 18 points from 11 games.

They come into this match on the back of a hard-fought 1-0 win over Newcastle after holding Manchester City to a 0-0 draw.

Stoke, meanwhile, are six place and six points worse off, in 12 with 12 points.

They defeated winless QPR last time out, after a 1-0 loss to Norwich.

Allardyce could recall James Collins with the defender consigned to the bench for the Newcastle match. If he comes back into the side, James Tomkins could be the man to miss out.

This game appears to have come too soon for Matthew Taylor, who has returned to training following a calf injury, but Jack Collison (knee) and Ricardo Vaz te (shoulder) are both sidelined.

Stoke boss Tony Pulis is sweating over the fitness of Glenn Whelan with the midfielder having limped out of the Republic of Ireland's friendly against Greece with a hamstring problem.

Jon Walters and Charlie Adam are available despite both picking up minor knocks but Michael Owen (hamstring), Dean Whitehead (suspension), Rory Delap (hernia) and Marc Wilson (broken leg) remain sidelined.
