Fletcher: Doubt for Black Cats

Sunderland boss Martin O'Neill is sweating over the fitness of Steven Fletcher ahead of Sunday's clash with Fulham at Craven Cottage.

Fletcher has been instrumental for the Black Cats, scoring five of their meagre seven goals this season since his off-season move from Wolves.

However, the 28-year-old missed Scotland's midweek friendly win over Luxembourg with a calf injury and will undergo a late fitness test prior this weekend's trip.

Furthermore, midfielder Lee Cattermole (knee) and full-back Phil Bardsley (hamstring) remain doubts after both sat out Saturday's 2-1 defeat at Everton.

Besides their obvious goalscoring issues, the Wearsiders have won just one of their last 20 league matches and will be desperate to stop the rot.

However, they face an uphill battle against the Cottagers, who are unbeaten in five matches.

Martin Jol's men also earned an impressive 3-3 draw away at Arsenal last time out.

The hosts will have to do without Kieran Richardson, who pulled a hamstring early on against the Gunners and is still ten days away from recovery.

In other news, Chris Baird is suspended, Simon Davies (hip) is out, while Mahamadou Diarra (knee) and Michael Tavares (hamstring) are both doubts.
