Having scored 65 goals in 102 appearances during a three-and-a-half year stay at Anfield, Torres opted to leave Merseyside for west London in January last year.
However, the 28-year-old has struggled to replicate his impressive goalscoring form for the Blues since his big-money move.
And in the three matches he has played against the Reds since his switch, the striker has been on the losing side in each one.
But with Roberto Di Matteo's men eager to reclaim top spot in the Premier League, Torres believes a home win for the European champions at the weekend is a must.
"It's a big game and now we are in second position in the table," the Spain international said.
"We want to be at the top as soon as we can, so the first step is winning against Liverpool at Stamford Bridge."
Brendan Rodgers' side are as determined to succeed, but for completely different reasons as they occupy 12th place on the standings with just 11 points from ten games.
Torres added: "They are really looking forward to the game because they need points, they need to win these kinds of big games to get confidence.
"But we also need them so hopefully the three points can stay at Stamford Bridge."
