Tiote is suspended for domestic action after having picked up a red card two weeks ago in the Tyne-Wear derby, for which he was criticised by Magpies boss Alan Pardew.

He will therefore miss this weekend's Premier League clash with West Ham, but is available for Thursday's Europa League encounter with Club Brugge.

The 26-year-old has accumulated 29 yellow cards since joining the Toon and knows he needs to control his exuberance on the pitch.

However, the Ivory Coast international insists he won't lose the hard edge to his game.

"I don't need the manager to talk to me about my disciplinary record," he told The Northern Echo.

"I know that I have picked up too many yellow cards. I know that I have to be careful. But it is my style and I cannot change my style.

"I need to be a lot more careful over some of the bookings that I pick up. But I will not change my style of play. It will get better."
