Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers says that Luis Suarez's presence in the team is reminiscent of Lionel Messi's influence for Barcelona.

The Uruguay international scored another fantastic goal to add to his collection of wonder strikes when he helped the Reds to a 1-1 draw against Newcastle on Sunday.

Rodgers told Sky Sports: "He plays the false nine role like Messi does for Barcelona where he moves freely and others have to get in behind him to penetrate.

"Suarez's goal was brilliant. He is a world-class striker."

Suarez's performance against the Magpies was a mesmerising one and proved too much for Fabricio Coloccini, who was sent-off five minutes from time for a reckless challenge on the Liverpool striker.

Rodgers added: "It was probably frustration from Fabricio Coloccini because Luis Suarez was unplayable. I thought he was outstanding.

The Reds manager is now looking towards the transfer window in January to add some like-minded players to his squad.

"Once we get a number of other players that can fit the profile and the model of our game, when we dominate games like that and finish the chances it will be great for us," said Rodgers.

Suarez has scored seven goals in his last nine league matches, with the rest of the team contributing only another six.
