Bent was unable to participate in Saturday's 1-0 win against former club Sunderland after he suffered an injury recurrence in Friday's training session.
The 28-year-old's recent setback is worrisome as it is the same injury he sustained towards the end of last season which cost him a trip to Euro 2012.
"Darren hurt his ankle on Friday in training," Villa boss Paul Lambert said.
"It is the same ankle he hurt against Wigan (in February). I know it was serious then.
"Is it serious? I don't know yet. He will get treatment on it during the week and we will see.
"He was really hobbling on Friday and we couldn't take a chance on him with Sunderland."
