Pardew: Keeps cool

Newcastle manager Alan Pardew feels Fabricio Coloccini's sending off against Liverpool was not warranted, but said he will not argue with referee Anthony Taylor's decision.

The Magpies looked on their way to all three points following Johan Cabaye's first-half stunner, but Luis Suarez responded with his own wonder-goal to level matters after 67 minutes.

The Reds were then handed the impetus as Coloccini saw a straight red for what was deemed 'serious foul play' on Suarez, although replays showed contact had been minimal.

Pardew admits the sending off came as a big blow, but following a week of heavy criticism towards match officials the Toon boss thought it best to leave the matter alone.

"I thought he (Taylor) maybe got caught up in the emotion and I wanted to ask him before he'd had a chance to see replays," Pardew told Sky Sports 1.

"He said he thought it was serious foul play. The morale of referees must be really low at the moment, because of constant criticism and the issues around them. We accept his decision and I thought he had a good day.

"I don't think there was any intent but we accept it."
