The Royals started brightly and went ahead after just 16 minutes. The Hoops were sluggish in clearing their lines from a Nicky Shorey corner and Gorkks made them pay as he turned home from close range.

It wasn't until the final 10 minutes of the half that the visitors began to show any attacking threat.

Esteban Granero's free-kick was turned onto the post by a superb save from Alex McCarthy, who also saved twice from Adel Taarabt's long-range strikes at the end of the half.

Both teams missed decent chances in the second half before the hosts got back on level terms. Sean Morrison's poor clearance from Jamie Mackie's cross allowed Cisse to fire home from 12 yards with 66 minutes played.

With eight minutes remaining substitute Hal Robson-Kanu should have put Reading back in front but the Welshman headed Shorey's corner over from six yards.

Two minutes later Taarabt might have won it when he was put through by Cisse, but the Moroccan was denied by a spectacular save from the outstretched leg of McCarthy.

The result leaves Mark Hughes' side bottom and Brian McDermott's team remain in the bottom three with both clubs yet to register a league win this season.
