The champions, in third spot, are the only team in the top flight without a defeat after nine games, and they head into the Upton Park encounter on the back of a four-match winning streak.

The Hammers, meanwhile, are hoping to return to winning ways following their 2-1 loss at Wigan last time out, although the east Londoners remain in the top half of the table in ninth place on 14 points.

In team news, Irons boss Sam Allardyce is still missing a number of players through injury.

Defender Guy Demel and midfielder Matthew Taylor are still battling with hernia and calf problems respectively, although the duo are expected to return in the next fortnight.

Striker Ricardo Vaz Te (shoulder) and midfielder Jack Collison (knee) remain on the treatment table with long-term injuries.

Micah Richards will miss the trip to the capital as a result of the knee injury he sustained against Swansea last weekend.

However, City manager Roberto Mancini is hopeful the defender will be back in action within a month.

Richards joins midfielders David Silva and Jack Rodwell (both hamstring) and fellow defender Maicon (foot) on the sidelines.

Mancini, though, welcomes back Javi Garcia, Pablo Zabaleta and James Milner to his squad.

Midfielder Garcia and full-back Zabaleta have shaken off their respective thigh and hamstring injuries, while Milner returns after serving a one-match ban against the Swans.
