Donovan, who has been on an extended leave of absence since helping the Galaxy to their second successive MLS Cup but has decided to rejoin his team-mates just in time for the annual trip to President Obama's home to celebrate the 2012 title.
The 31-year-old's team-mates are looking forward to the playing alongside the influential attacker again and midfielder Mike Magee couldn't help but poke fun his timely return to the squad, noting he may be subject to some rookie treatment.
"I bet he will be [there]," Magee told Major League Soccer's official website.
It's convenient, right? Convenient timing. Landon's obviously been a key figure for MLS and the LA Galaxy for a long time, so I'm not surprised he chose not to miss this trip."
"[Carry the] water bottles, push goals [into position in training], clean the rookies' shoes, we're going to make him do it all."
A.J. DeLaGarza added: "I'm sure he will get a lot of banter the first couple of weeks, but I'm sure he can take it. He's definitely going to help our team. He's obviously one of the best players in this league, so everybody's looking forward to it."
Following their visit to the White House, the Galaxy face Toronto FC on 30 March but Bruce Arena was quick to quash any suggestions that the LA captain would walk straight into the starting line-up.
"We need to be patient. It's going to take some time," the Galaxy boss said.
"You don't go from being away to stepping on the field and being ready to play and being up to the level that he left us in December. So it's going to take some time, and we need to be patient."
