The Gunners boss has seen his position come under intense scrutiny this season following disappointing exits from both the Capital One and FA Cups, peaking with the 3-1 first leg loss to Bayern Munich in the UEFA Champions League last-16 at the Emirates a week ago.

And the former Southampton speedster, who was brought to North London by the Frenchman as a 16-year-old, has declared it is time to stop making excuses and vindicate their manager in his time of crisis.

"The boss has always had so much belief in me from a young age, but we haven't won anything for a long time so we want to pay him back by winning something," Walcott is quoted in the Daily Star.

"If we don't perform he always takes it back on himself, but it is not fair because we are the players that go out there and do it.

"He definitely let us know when we are not performing, though, which is the right way to do it."

The Gunners will be hoping to galvanise their season this weekend when they travel across the capital to take on bitter rivals Tottenham Hotspur in their North London Premier League derby.
