The Red Devils currently top the Premier League table with 68 points after 27 games, boasting a 12-point lead over closest rivals Manchester City.

But the England international has dismissed talk of premature celebrations at Old Trafford, claiming there is still all to play for in the league.

"We're trying the best we can to block out talk of the title being won already," Carrick told MUTV. "We have a job to do and the manager has said we need to think game to game and just win the next match, what's in front of us.

"You can't look too far ahead because it can come back and bite you."

On a personal level, the former Tottenham man has enjoyed a resurgence in form this season, cementing his place in the centre of midfield for the Manchester giants.

And the United faithful were keen to show their support for the 31-year-old during Saturday's victory over QPR, chanting "Hard to believe it is not Scholes" in a flattering comparison to Carrick's veteran team-mate.

Speaking on the comparision, he said: "Scholesy is a legend, so I don't know whether it is tongue-in-cheek but it is a nice song and I will take that.

"It is always good to be compared to players like that. Paul is as good as it gets and has been throughout his career.

"To train alongside him and have the chance to learn every day has been something I have tried to make the most of. It has helped me bring my own game on whether he knows it or not and that has been a big help."
