Italy held its collective breath on Sunday as the city foes entered the San Siro for the latest edition of Derby della Madonnina, with Milan opening the scoring through Stephan El Shaarawy in the first period.

Zanetti has admitted the Nerazzurri were lucky to get a point after performing below par for much of the match, but believes they were rewarded for a dogged fightback after Ezequiel Schelotto equalised in the 71st minute.

"It was a very intense derby. Milan were better than us in the first period but Inter pulled out all the stops to get the equaliser," Zanetti said after the game. "It's all to play for now. I'm especially pleased with how we did in the second-half and how we approached the game."

Goalkeeper Samir Handanovic, meanwhile, took pleasure from the result after he denied Milan on multiple occasions to go further ahead, but admitted they will have to improve in certain areas.

"I don't think we got our approach wrong at the start. Perhaps at a certain point a little bit of fear started to set in. We need to improve, we realise we're not finding everything plain sailing, there's still work to be done," he said.

The Inter shot-stopper also took the time to reflect on his favourite moment of the performance in the match.

"All saves are difficult, you can't say some are more difficult than others. The save I was most pleased with was the one when I dived low at Mario Balotelli's feet."
