Sir Alex Ferguson is confident the hip injury sustained by Robin van Persie against Queens Park Rangers will not rule him out of the Real Madrid game on March 5.

Van Persie collided with a camera in the lead-up to Rafael's opener for Manchester United, and after soldiering on for the best part of 20 minutes, the Dutchman was eventually replaced by Danny Welbeck shortly before half-time.

With the crucial Champions League last-16 second leg clash with Real Madrid less than two weeks away, United will want the Premier League's leading scorer to be fit to face the La Liga giants, and Ferguson is confident he will indeed be available to take his place in the staring line-up at Old Trafford.

"He collided into a camera which was dug out of a piece of ground, he collided into the base of it and that's given him a sore hip," Ferguson told Sky Sports.

"I imagine it will be tender and sore for a few days, but hopefully he'll be alright, particularly for the Real game."
