Reading go into Saturday's clash on the back of some much-improved domestic form, having recorded four victories in their previous six Premier League games.

Manager Brian McDermott will be hoping to continue such impressive figures when the Royals play host to Roberto Martinez' side, who have suffered contrasting fortunes in the form book over the same period.

The Latics have failed to claim a league victory since the turn of the year, and yet sit only one position below their weekend opposition in 19th.

Wigan will thus be hoping for a crucial scalp at the Madejski Stadium, with three points able to go along way in yet another season trying to avoid the drop.

On the injury front, Malian winger Jimmy Kebe could return to Reading's starting line-up after sitting out the FA Cup defeat to Manchester United with an unspecified injury.

Jason Roberts and Alex McCarthy sit out Saturday's encounter with hip and shoulder injuries respectively, while Mikele Leigertwood is a doubt after failing to recover from the knock sustained in the defeat in Manchester and.

Wigan defender Antolin Alcaraz, meanwhile, could make a long-awaited return after a lengthy spell on the treatment table.

The Paraguayan has not featured for the Latics since August after injuring his groin while on international duty.

Japanese winger Ryo Miyaichi could feature after returning from an ankle injury, and Emmerson Boyce awaits a call-up after also returning from a hamstring strain.
