Buskens struggled to produce enough winning results this term after guiding the Kleeblätter through promotion to the German top flight last season, recording only two victories in their 22 games thus far.

Furth president Helmut Hack thanked the 44-year-old for his impact on the club, but admitted the decision was taken with their relegation fight in mind.

"We have to thank Mike Buskens for all he's done for the club. This decision has been very difficult for us, because we know we are here (the Bundesliga) thanks to his work," Hack told the club's official website.

"But we wanted to give the team a new impetus while we still had a chance to save our season," he added.

Caretaker coach Louis Price and team manager Rouven Schroder take over from the outgoing Buskens, but have acknowledged that the situation is not permanent as they try to improve on the club's current league position.

"This is just a temporary solution until we have a new head coach," Schroder said.

Greuther centre-back Thomas Kleine had kind words to share of his departing coach, but is aware the team will need to press on from the news.

"A coach's dismissal is always a sad and difficult situation, especially when you have celebrated success together. We have to get our heads around this," he told magazine Kicker.
