The Honduran impressed for the South American nation at the 2012 London Olympics and according to the player's agent, the MLS club beat out numerous European clubs for the defender's services.

The Canadian outfit had been chasing the 23-year-old's signature after monitoring his performances for Montagu in the Honduran top flight and Leverón is happy the transfer has been finalised.

"The truth is that I'm very happy and very content to be with Vancouver finally after speaking to them for a while and wanting to be here the whole time," Leverón to Major League Soccer's official website.

"I hope to be able to work to the maximum to be ready as soon as possible and produce for the team as soon as possible.

"I'm happy because I know I'm coming to a great team."

Whitecaps boss Martin Rennie is pleased with the signing and believes Leverón will bring composure and talent to their back-line as well as improve their ability to keep possession of the ball.

"To be a good possession team, you have to be good coming out of the back and it's hard to find left-footed center backs who can hit a diagonal ball and play balls into strikers and midfielders and Leverón is one we think can do that," Rennie said.

"And he's also a solid defender and he's young. He's got a lot of experience for a younger player."
