Saviola: Not going to Seattle

Addressing reporters via a conference call on Tuesday, Hanauer was full of praise for Saviola, but denied any move to sign the player amidst reports of interest from another Major League Soccer club.

"Saviola is a fantastic player," Hanauer told the media.

"We rate him very highly. But I believe he's 'discovered' by another team in our league.

"There are a lot of great players out there we'd love to have on our team, but at this time there are no conversations and no progress directionally toward Saviola playing for the Sounders."

The reason the Seattle hierarchy may be reluctant to sign the former Barcelona striker is because of the MLS's 'Discovery' policy, which essentially gives a club first-refusal.

Meaning that if Saviola has indeed been 'discovered' by another club, the Sounders would have to compensate that club for the chance to sign him, in addition to a transfer fee.

The veteran hitman is enjoying a good campaign with La Liga club Malaga, who currently sit in fourth place in Spain's Primera Division and are in the last-16 of the UEFA Champions League.
