Die Königsblauen were unbeaten in the group stage, and have not suffered defeat in the Champions League since losing to Manchester United in the semi-finals in 2010-2011.

However, the Gelsenkirchen club have won just once in all competitions since the turn of the year, and are currently seven points off the last Champions League qualification place in the Bundesliga.

Jens Keller's side are without a handful of first-team regulars, with the likes of Kyriakos Papadopoulos, Ibrahim Afellay and Ciprian Marica all unavailable.

Star striker Klaas-Jan Huntelaar, who has four goals in this year's competition, could feature after a burst blood vessel in his eye kept him sidelined for his side's Bundesliga match at the weekend.

January signing Michel Bastos has scored three in three since his arrival from Lyon, and Keller will be hoping the Brazilian maintains his fantastic form as Schalke look to navigate their way to the quarter-finals of the competition.

Galatasaray, meanwhile, are six points clear at the top of the Turkish Super Lig, and Fatih Terim's men secured a famous 1-0 victory over the Red Devils on their way to a second place finish in their group.

Didier Drogba is set to make his first appearance in the Champions League since his match winning penalty for Chelsea in last season's final against Bayern Munich, and should partner top scorer Burak Yilmaz up front.

Defender Tomas Ujfalusi and striker Johan Elmander, however, are both out injured, while Emmanuel Eboue could feature.
