The previously undisputed number one for both club and country has made a number of mistakes this season, the latest of which occurred in City's 3-1 defeat to Southampton on February 9th.

The 25-year-old knows that unless he maintains a consistently high level of performance, there is every chance that boss Roberto Mancini will drop him, with the likes of Costel Pantilimon and Richard Wright waiting in the wings.

"It's hard to be No1 at a club like this now - any dip in the form and that won't be the case," he said.

"I have got to keep some high standards and ride through the low times and try and have as many good ones as possible.

"But it is a big thing for me when you are standing alongside some of the greatest players in England, and it feels good and exciting."

With Hart in goal, the Citizens have conceded just 24 goals this season, the lowest total in the Premier League. However, Mancini's men trail Manchester United by 12 points and many feel there is no way back for the champions.
