The Toffees have not beaten Oldham in the FA Cup since 1912, and the last time they met in this competition (third round) in 2008, the Latics won 1-0 courtesy of a Gary McDonald strike.

Oldham beat Everton's arch-rivals Liverpool 3-2 in the previous round at Boundary Park as the Toffees beat Bolton Wanderers 2-1 at the Reebok Stadium.

Striker Matt Smith scored twice in that famous victory for Oldham but should miss this clash due to a shoulder injury, together with Connor Murray, Cristian Montano and Paul Murray, the latter being cup-tied.

Smith's striking partner Robbie Simpson is facing a late fitness test for this match.

Everton, meanwhile, will be without Tony Hibbert and Seamus Coleman who are recovering from a calf and hip injury respectively.

Manager David Moyes is also expected to rest Nigerian forward Victor Anichebe, who limped out of the game against Manchester United, while defender Sylvain Distin is fit again and ready for selection.

Nikica Jelavic might make the starting line-up if Anichebe is rested.
