Niang arrived at the San Siro at the beginning of the season and quickly developed a reputation as a somewhat troublesome individual.
The then 17-year-old was stopped by police for driving without a licence, and reports claim he attempted to convince the authorities that he was in fact Bakaye Traore, a team-mate at Milan.
The U21 international has also been banned from representing the national team until December 2013 for failing to observe a strict curfew enforced by the team's management.
Nevertheless, the former Caen star has since established himself in the Rossoneri first-team, and says he is determined to shed the tag of enfant terrible and become a success at the Italian giants.
"There's a different mentality here in Italy than back home in France. You have to be more professional here," Niang said.
"I have to solely focus on football and be careful what I do off the pitch. Adriano Galliani got angry with me after a few incidents and he helped me realise that I had to change.
"Milan are my big chance and I cannot just throw this away. I have to make the most of this opportunity and become an important player for Milan."
