Calderon joined the Rapids from Ecuadorian club LDU Quito in January and has seamlessly slotted into the Rapids' back line, forming a good partnership with Drew Moor in central defence during Colarado's pre-season, despite speaking different languages.
They're coupling well," Rapids boss Pareja told Major League Soccer's official website.
"Drew is speaking Spanish and Diego is speaking English."
Calderon has not found it difficult to settle in at Dicks Sporting Goods Park and believes the American game is quite similar to that of the Ecuadorian Serie A.
"There aren't many differences, they play soccer everywhere, so it's a growing league and it's a special experience for everyone who comes here," he said.
There is no question over the 26-year-old's ability but the language barrier is posing somewhat of a problem for 2008 Copa Libertadores winner, who has spent most of his life in South America speaking Spanish.
However, the Ecuadorian international insist he is doing all he can to learn enough English to communicate before the MLS season kicks off on 2 March.
"I'm trying to learn from my teammates and learning the words that I need to communicate with the group, later I'm going to take English classes so I can talk with everyone." he said.
