The Welshman scored both goals for Spurs in a victory that sees them leapfrog Chelsea into third place, with the Blues taking on Wigan shortly thereafter.

And the 23-year-old says he is delighted with the result, and feels the win was vital as the club look to solidify their place in the top four.

"It was a massive game today. It was just important to come back and put pressure on the teams above us," he told Sky Sports. "I am enjoying my football at the moment and that's the most important thing. I'm just going to keep my head down and be focused."

Were it not for the heroics of Tim Krul in the Newcastle goal, the former Southampton youth product could well have had a hat-trick, and Bale was quick to acknowledge the Dutchman's effort.

"He is definitely a great keeper. I was disappointed with the goal I missed on my right foot. I'll have to work on that," Bale concluded.
