Messi, who is currently on international duty, is expected to sign a new five-year deal on Thursday which will keep him at the Nou Camp until 2018.
He will then join Barca stalwarts Carles Puyol and Xavi in having committed their long-term futures to the Blaugrana.
Messi, who won his fourth straight FIFA World Player of the Year award in January, is in a rich vein of form for the Catalans this season.
Having already broke the world record of 85 goals scored in a calendar year in 2012, his strike in Sunday's 1-1 draw at Valencia was a La Liga record 12th consecutive game in which he found the back of the net.
The mercurial 25-year-old has scored almost 300 goals in all competitions for Barca since his first-team debut in 2003.
