The former England international joined Galaxy from Real Madrid in 2007 and went on to help the California outfit to the last two MLS titles before making his move to Paris-St Germain last week.
The 37-year-old midfielder has since been credited with elevating the level of US football, and Tim Leiweke, president of Anschutz Entertainment Group - owners of the Los Angeles Galaxy - did not hold back his praise for Beckham.
"Seldom does an athlete redefine a sport. David not only took our franchise to another level but he took our sport to another level," Leiweke said.
Beckham's initial contract with Galaxy, worth $32.5 million, also included a deal to become the owner of a MLS team at less than the market value, and the player says he has every intention of one day taking up that option.
"My commitment to the league stays the same," Beckham said. "I still want to be part of this league... My ambition is to be part of the ownership structure in the future."
