Sturridge has made a fantastic start to his Reds career scoring three goals in his first five games, and Johnson feels the former Chelsea and Manchester City striker will prove to be an astute signing by manager Brendan Rodgers.

"Danny Sturridge has settled in well and I think he'll do some fantastic things here at the club," he told the club's official website.

"He will be a fantastic signing. He will petrify defenders because he's so sharp, quick and unpredictable at times. He will always occupy at least two defenders, which gives the rest of us opportunities to make runs around him.

"He will be a great asset for us. I know how Danny felt at City and Chelsea. Every player wants to play in every game. I'm sure Danny left Chelsea to get games and show what he can do because he's a fantastic player.

"It's a great challenge to go up against Danny and Luis Suarez in training. I can really see the partnership being very good for us.

"We've already seen that, but it's still early days and it's going to improve over time as well. It's looking bright between them."

The 28-year-old right-back went on to speak about his side's chances of finishing in the top-four and with that securing qualification for the UEFA Champions League, and says he believes it not an insurmountable challenge to achieve that goal.

"The top four is still a realistic aim for us," he added. "We can only worry about ourselves, but we are giving ourselves a chance and picking up points.

"If we can find some kind of run from now until the end of the season, I'm sure we'll be pretty close. There are probably six teams fighting for fourth place this season. It's very open. We know it will be tight."
