The Reds boss had been damning in his criticism of his young squad following their 3-2 FA Cup defeat at Oldham on Sunday.

However, the Ulsterman was decidedly more affirming in his post-match analysis this time round, appearing to distance himself from his earlier remarks.

"Sunday was more my fault than theirs. I'm a great believer in young players, I look at the depth of our squad and put a lot of trust in them," he said.

"The problem is when I put them in and I don't have some of our big players its difficult. And that's how it was on Sunday. But I never had any second thoughts that I would get a reaction."

The Merseysiders took a 2-0 lead at the Emirates following goals from Luis Suarez and Jordan Henderson.

However, the Gunners hit-back through Olivier Giroud and Theo Walcott in the 64th and 67th minutes to earn a valuable point for Arsene Wenger's men.

Liverpool next take on Manchester City at the Etihad on Sunday, and will be hoping to repeat a similar performance against the reigning champions having failed to beat any of the league's current top 10 sides this season.
