The home side made a bright start and took the lead after ten minutes when Dimitar Berbatov headed in a Damien Duff free-kick, though three Fulham players looked to be offside when the ball was crossed in.

West Ham, who were poor in the first half, were quick out of the blocks in the second and equalised after 49 minutes when Kevin Nolan was allowed to turn and run onto a ball and volley left-footed past Schwarzer.

The Hammers though weren't level for long as Hugo Rodallega nipped between two defenders to head in Duff's cross just a minute later.

Both sides went on the attack, with West Ham having a couple of penalty shouts waved away.

But it was the home side who made the game safe in the 90th minute, when substitute Mladen Petric turned in the rebound, with help from Joey O'Brien, after Rodallega's shot was saved by Jussi Jaaskelainen.
