The Gunners currently sit sixth in the standings, three points above the Reds in seventh, after smashing West Ham 5-1 in a rearranged top-flight clash last week.

Arsene Wenger's men also enter the tie on the back of a 3-2 FA Cup victory at Brighton, securing their place in the fifth round, but have a four-point gap to close on fourth-placed Tottenham, who travel to Norwich on the same day.

The Merseysiders, meanwhile, have the heartbreak of their FA Cup exit to overcome after they suffered a shock 3-2 defeat to Brentford on Sunday.

Brendan Rodgers' men did, however, also manage to put away five goals in their most recent Premier League outing, against the Canaries, and will be looking for back-to-back top-flight wins to keep their European ambitions alive this term.

On the team front, Wenger is set to welcome captain Thomas Vermaelen back from an ankle injury, although the Frenchman revealed Mikel Arteta is still out with a calf strain.

The boss also confirmed Lukasz Fabianski is set for a chance between the sticks after impressing in training, while Theo Walcott, Jack Wilshere and Santi Cazorla are all set to return to the starting XI after being named on the bench at the weekend.

The visitors, meanwhile, are set to welcome Jose Reina, Jose Enrique and Glen Johnson back to the team, with the trio all recovering from their various knocks.

A number of other stars are also set to return to the squad after having been rested, at the ultimate cost, in the FA Cup.
