The Belgium international is facing up to three weeks on the sidelines after limping off late in the first-half against Stoke on Saturday with what was later revealed to be a recurrence of a calf injury.
Platt believes that unless City determine the root cause of the problem, they will be compelled to make do without their captain and defensive lynchpin far more often than they would like to.
"It is a concern that it's not a fresh injury," he told reporters. "The calf is the strangest muscle - there is probably more recurring issues with it than with hamstrings, groins and things like that.
"And it has happened on a couple of occasions but the concern is to make sure we clear up the problem."
