The Rossoneri got off to a terrible start in the 2012/13 campaign, collecting only seven points from their opening eight matches.

Their form has improved dramatically since then, having won nine, drawn three, and lost just two of their last 14 league games.

Galliani feels that were the season to start now, the San Siro club - fifth on the table on 37 points - would be guaranteed a spot in Europe's premier club competition next season.

"I think we are doing even better now than when we had much more resources to call on. We had a tough period at the start but this team can compete with anyone in Serie A," the vice-president told reporters.

"We are doing well. We are the best team in the last 14 games. On one hand, it is great to see how well we are doing, on the other hand, there's the bitterness for how we started.

"If we could restart the campaign from now, we would get a Champions League spot for sure but as things are we are six points off. That is still the objective, though.

"We have a good team and we're on an average of 80 points per year. But we are still behind the other teams and the problem with that is that you cannot afford to lose."
