The Black Cats will have benefited from a break from FA Cup football this past weekend, having been knocked out by Bolton a round earlier.

Martin O'Neill's men will be hoping to take advantage of any jadedness following the Swans' recent exertions in the Capital One Cup against Chelsea a week ago.

The Wearsiders are still likely to be without Danny Rose who is doubtful with a hamstring injury, with Jack Colback expected to regain his starting place.

Carlos Cuellar and Lee Cattermole face late fitness tests as they recover from hamstring and knee injuries respectively.

Swansea, meanwhile, will look to carry their good cup form into the midweek encounter against Sunderland, who they have yet to beat in three previous top-flight fixtures.

The Swans are unbeaten in their last league outings, but travel to the Stadium of Light hoping to record their first away victory since December.

Michael Laudrup could recall Michel Vorm to the starting line-up after Gerhard Tremmel deputised in goal against the Blues, while Ki Sung-yueng is doubtful after suffering an ankle knock in the same game.

The Swans will, however, be without Kemy Agustien and long-term absentee Neil Taylor with both players still recovering from ankle injuries.
