The Argentine full-back's strike late in the game was the difference in the hard-fought match at the Britannia Stadium.
But Zabaleta was keen to share the praise rather than steal the limelight for himself.
"I think it was well deserved for the team. I think we did a great game," he said.
"We knew it was going to be tough. It has always been a difficult pitch for us in the last few years.
"But I think we played a fantastic game. We were very solid at the back. We worked really well as a team.
"We created a lot of chances. I think it was the perfect game for us."
Injuries to Micah Richards and Maicon has given the 28-year-old an extended run in the side and he has been one of the Citizens' most consistent performers this season.
"Probably, I think it is one of the best seasons for me since I signed for Manchester City," Zabaleta told City TV.
"I am always trying to improve myself on everything but also I have to say I am playing with great players around me. That makes every player better."
