Hazard was sent off by referee Kevin Friend following the incident in the 85th minute, but the Belgian reportedly avoided police action after the ball boy and his father chose not to lay charges.

The FA, however, have taken a different stance on the issue, claiming the former Lille star's automatic three-match ban is 'clearly insufficient', whilst simultaneously warning clubs about the future behaviour of their ground personnel.

A statement on the FA's official website explained: "It is alleged that Hazard's behaviour constituted violent conduct whereby the standard punishment that would otherwise apply was clearly insufficient."

"The FA will remind all clubs of their responsibilities in ensuring ball boys and other personnel around the pitch act in an appropriate manner at all times and will liaise with competitions accordingly," the message concluded.

The Belgian has until 18:00pm GMT on Friday to respond to the FA's charges.
