The Blues will be hoping to kick on after missing out on a Wembley final date with lowly League Two side Bradford in the Capital One Cup following their 2-0 aggregate defeat to Swansea in midweek.

The historic competition now represents one of the few opportunities available to Rafa Benitez' men to claim a trophy this season, after the Spaniard recently conceded their Premier League challenge is all but over.

Captain John Terry could be rushed back into competitive action following recovery from a long term knee injury, with David Luiz being ruled out after picking up a knock in midweek.

Eden Hazard also misses out for the Blues as he starts a three-match ban for bizarrely kicking a ball boy during the game against Swansea, while Yossi Benayoun and Oriol Romeu continue to be sidelined with knee injuries.

Brentford, meanwhile, head into Sunday's match without Jake Bidwell, after the on-loan youngster was sent off in their League One clash against Leyton Orient, with Scott Barron expecting to deputise.

Harry Forrester should return to the starting line-up after being rested against Orient, but midfielder Kevin O'Connor continues to sit out with an ankle injury.
