The game represents the first meeting of the two clubs in the competition since the 2010/11 final, with City triumphing that day in a narrow 1-0 victory.

City will be looking to build on their impressive domestic form of late, claiming maximum points in their last four league outings, including the 3-0 home victory over Stoke on New Year's Day.

Sergio Aguero could return to Roberto Mancini's starting line-up after recovering from a hamstring injury, following his substitute appearance in last week's 2-0 win over Fulham.

Pablo Zabaleta, meanwhile, is a doubt following his substitution in the same game with an ankle injury.

Jack Rodwell may get a rare run out in midfield, with Yaya Toure still on duty with the Ivory Coast at the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations, along with Kolo Toure and Abdul Razak, also of the Ivory Coast.

Fullbacks Micah Richards and Maicon continue to be sidelined with knee injuries.

Stoke, meanwhile, will be looking to avoid a repeat of the league loss they suffered at the hands of the champions earlier this month.

The Potters form has been erratic of late with three losses on the trot in the league, and only a 4-1 FA Cup replay victory against Crystal Palace lightening an otherwise terrible January period.

Thomas Sorensen is likely to deputise in goal for Asmir Begovic, as has been Tony Pulis' rotation policy for the competition this season.

Stoke continue to be without defender Andy Wilkinson (back) and Marc Wilson (broken leg), while Ryan Shotton and Rory Delap are also unavailable due to hamstring and calf injuries respectively.
