Fernandez: Leaves Fires' ranks

Chicago Fire head coach Frank Klopas feels his squad has enough depth to cope with the departure of Alvaro Fernandez.

Reports have suggested the Fire would struggle to fill the void left by the Uruguayan following his loan move to Qatari side Al Rayyan.

Klopas has moved to quell those fears, however, and feels his players are good enough to compensate for the midfielder's absence.

"Obviously we're always going to be looking at different options, but I do feel that, in our group, we have players that have the flexibility to play different spots," he said.

"We have Alex that can play in the wide spots. We have a guy like Chris Rolfe who has played out wide. Even Wells Thompson, where we brought him in late in the season."

Despite the coach's assertions, reports have linked the Chicago club with moves for Columbus Crew midfielder Dilly Duka recently.

On the subject of adding to his squad, Klopas said: "If there are opportunities that come up inside the league or outside, we're also going to look at those."
