The Gunners went into the break on level terms but came out and blew Sam Allardyce's side away after half time, scoring four goals in a rampant 10 minute period that saw them go 5-1 up.
The 63-year-old has always had confidence in his team's ability, however, the Frenchman did admit they have started recent games "timidly" particularly against big teams.
"I never felt that the players didn't know how important it is. I was more worried that they are sometimes a bit inhibited in the recent big games from the start on," Wenger said. "But this team has a fantastic mentality and good quality, that's what we want to show until the end of the season now."
West Ham's thrashing at the Emirates was somewhat overshadowed by a serious injury to fullback Danny Potts.
The 18-year-old was stretchered off after a nasty collision with Bacary Sagna that required 10 minutes of treatment on the pitch.
Hammers boss Sam Allardyce said: "They put him on the oxygen and strapped him just to make sure there was no damage to the spine or the neck.
"He was out for a few seconds, maybe a minute and was not fully conscious when he came off. Hopefully he will make a speedy recovery. As he lost consciousness it is a minimum of two weeks I think before he can play again."
Big Sam admits his team were second best on the night and believes when the Gunners are at their free-flowing best, they are very difficult to handle.
"Sometimes you can't live with the opposition when they are in top form.
"A horrible 12 minutes for us, you wonder what Arsenal are going to be like when they have lost two on the trot, once we opened up they tore us apart," Allardyce said.
