Torres' erratic form this season has drawn criticism from all parts, with his showing against the Gunners not doing much to ease the vitriol.
Benitez, however, launched into a staunch defence of Torres following the weekend's encounter.
"Fernando was doing a great job," the Blues interim boss said.
"Afterwards, Demba (Ba) gave us something we didn't have before.
"These people who like to quote stats and stats, they don't have any clue about what is going on."
The London derby represented the seventh successive match in which Torres has failed to score, the Spaniard's longest dry spell this term.
Benitez, though, believes fatigue has contributed to Torres' lacklustre performances, and thinks the arrival of Ba will benefit both forwards.
"When you have one striker for a month and a half and cannot change, it's more difficult for the striker," he added.
"When you have now two strikers, you can manage."
