Valencia were left stunned as Real returned to blistering form in emphatic fashion. There was no way back for the home side as soon as Gonzalo Higuain opened the scoring on nine minutes.

After missing a simple chance, Higuain confidently finished with his left-foot from close range after being well found by Angel Di Maria.

Valencia's Jonas was denied a penalty and booked for diving before Di Maria netted the second, turning Cristiano Ronaldo's low cross home at the back post on 34 minutes.

After a couple of mesmerising step-overs, Ronaldo fired home the third just two minutes later, the Portuguese's left-footed shot rattling into the bottom corner from the edge of the box.

Four minutes before the break Ronaldo was on target once again, this time Mesut Ozil teed him up in the box with a fine touch and he finished low in clinical fashion.

On the stroke of half-time it was 0-5. Ozil slid the ball through for Di Maria, who expertly found the bottom corner with a left-footed finish.

Valencia managed to stop the rot in the second half, but there was no way back for the home side.
