The 24-year-old has made 29 appearances in all competitions for Spanish giants this term, scoring five goals and claiming nine assists.

While it is clear that Ozil's strength lies in setting up his team-mates, he hasn't chipped in with as many goals as he would have liked this season.

However, the Germany international has supreme faith in his own ability and is determined to add his own name to the list of football's greatest players.

When asked who he rated as the world's top three players, Ozil told Die Bild: "Messi is an outstanding player, but I have proven myself in the big games against Barca.

"I am a regular player at the best club in the world. Of course I want to be the best player in the world.

"I have high expectations of myself and am confident that I can fulfill them."

Meanwhile, Ozil remains optimistic over Real's trophy prospects this year, with Jose Mourinho's side trailing Barcelona by a mammoth 18 points ahead of Sunday's clash with Valencia.

He added: "We made too many simple errors [in La Liga], especially against smaller teams when we threw away too many points.

"But it is important not to give up. We have a great commitment to Real and the fans in every game, and we also have the Champions League and the cup to compete for.

"We are Real Madrid. We are not afraid of any opposition. We can beat anyone and I think we are now ready for the title."
