Newcastle have been in dismal form and have tumbled down the league standings into 16th position, just two points clear of the relegation zone.

Alan Pardew's men have won just three in their last 15 fixtures and the loss of Demba Ba to Chelsea have not done the team any good.

Yohan Cabaye looks set to return to the starting lineup after the midfielder came off the bench in the goalless draw against Norwich last weekend. Shola Ameobi is also poised to return to the squad after serving his one-match ban for the sending off against Brighton in the FA Cup.

Ryan Taylor (knee), Dan Gosling (ankle) and Danny Simpson (foot) will all miss out, as well as Haris Vukic (knee).

Brian McDermott will be looking for his side's third straight victory in the Premier League at St James' Park as they continue to look for a way out of the relegation zone.

After losing seven straight in the league, the Royals have won two of their last four, while losing one and drawing one.

McDermott is unlikely to make any changes to the squad that came from behind to beat West Brom 3-2 last weekend. Daniel Carrico is likely to drop to the subs bench after a tough introduction to English football.

Goalkeeper Alex McCarthy (shoulder), Hal Robson-Kanu (knee), Jason Roberts (thigh) are all likely to miss out, while Mikele Leigertwood will be handed a late fitness test after recovering from a knock.
