It has emerged that Manchester City released injury-prone midfielder Michael Johnson from his contract late last year.

The 24-year-old last made an appearance for the club in 2009, having subsequently struggled with a succession of injuries.
Johnson's last competitive match came on a loan spell at Leicester in 2011/12.
Former youth team product Johnson made his debut as an 18-year-old for the Citizens in 2006.
City have now confirmed that they have parted ways with the player, although no official announcement was made at the time.
